About the artist

Most pieces start as a long conversation, a few rounds of pencil sketches, and one careful sitting.

Iris is a fine-line tattoo artist working out of a private studio in Greenpoint. Her practice is custom only: every piece is drawn for the person wearing it, drawing on a vocabulary of botanicals, weathered ornament, and small-scale blackwork.

Before tattooing, Iris trained as an illustrator at RISD. She takes a small number of clients each week to keep the work careful. Most pieces start as a long conversation and a few rounds of pencil sketches.
