About the artist

“The good ones come slow. A piece is a long conversation, not a transaction.”

Iris is a fine-line tattoo artist working out of a private studio in Greenpoint. Her practice is custom only — every piece is drawn for the person wearing it, drawing on a vocabulary of botanicals, weathered ornament, and small-scale blackwork.

Before tattooing, Iris trained as an illustrator at RISD. Nine years in, she takes a small number of clients each week to keep the work careful — most pieces start as a long conversation and a few rounds of pencil sketches.
